The Fairytale and Fantasy Collection : Little Mermaid
Elobrate Sea Theme Based Necklace
This spectacular piece of wearable art is not for the fainthearted. It needs to be worn with style and confidence.
Inspiration for the piece is drawn from the lore of the Mer people. more particularly Mermaids.

A large chunk of paua shell dominates the piece. A net of Sterling Silver displays the accoutrements of the Mermaid. A starfish, a cockle shell, a pet crab, a piece of pretty pearl perhaps to hang around her neck, a button (maybe from a lost sailors coat) found on the ocean floor might come in handy. (Hang on, do Mermaids wear clothes?)

A wave-like silver chain joins this wonderful pendant to the main necklace. Happy silver fish swim around the chain in one direction. The colours of the ocean are strong throughout the piece. Large pieces of aventurine are interspersed with chalcedony (long associated with the lore of the sea), clear crystal and exquisite little sea urchin beads are dotted along the length too. Another chain of silver and aquamarine at the center depends a beautiful seahorse, the king fish and a key, presumably belonging to the Mermaid.

I wonder what it unlocks.....

They call to one another

"But sometimes morning fishermen
drag up in the net
bits of bright glass or the silver comb
of an old vanity set
or a letter rather hard to read
because it is still wet
sent to remind us never, never
never to forget
the mermen and mermaidens
in the prisons of the sea
who call to one another
when the stars of morning rise
and the sun of evening set
for I have heard them calling
and I can hear them. yet."
